Radiohead’s Thom Yorke has posted up a list of his current favourite songs up on Apple’s iTunes site as one of their Celebrity Playlists, and we find out he’s a fan of Bat for Lashes, The Dears and Spank Rock.

“dear iTunes listener . . .
this is just some stuff that really floats my boats at the moment. the list is meant to be played from start to finish in the order you see it with a slight crossfade set in the preferences of 4 seconds like an old mix tape.
err . . . maybe. XX love thom

[Bat for Lashes] “Horse and I” (Track 1): “natasha khan of bat for lashes ain’t scared. i love the harpsichord and the sexual ghost voices and bowed saws. this song seems to come from the world of grimm’s fairytales, and i feel like a wolf.”

Deefhoof Falls In Love With Radiohead

It would seem Deerhoof touring with Radiohead has spawned the potential for a beautiful relationship between the respective bands.

So bowled over by the Oxford boys was Deerhoof drummer Greg Saunier that he said working alongside Thom Yorke and the rest of the band totally changed his perspective on life.

“Everybody knows what an uncommon live group they are, and even with years of buildup and knowing there was no way they could live up to the legend, they were so much better than even my highest expectation that my whole outlook on the world had to be immediately revised.

“But what people might not know is that they are so great in person. All five of them, and everyone in their enormous crew, were all so sweet to us. They really supported our music.”

The band debuted 15step on the North American leg of their tour last year.

Alternative metal band Korn are to release their own cover version of the Radiohead classic Creep on their forthcoming MTV Unplugged album.

The track has already been covered by the likes of Moby and Damien Rice. Creep climbed as high as No. 7 in the UK charts back in 1993, appearing on the band’s debut album Pablo Honey.

Korn were joined on stage by The Cure when recording the album back in December 2006 and the combination performed a special version of Cure classic In Between Days which will also feature on the album. The album is due to be released on February 19.

London-based “educational charity” D&AD (Design & Art Direction) has announced the 29th edition of its Global Student Awards design competition, and among the “briefs” (i.e., prompts): a Radiohead-sponsored challenge to create a music video for Thom Yorke’s “The Clock”, from the man’s 2006 debut solo disc The Eraser. Apparently there are some other categories and it’s a prestigious contest or whatever, but holy shit! Radiohead!!

According to the contest website, “All full or part time students enrolled on higher education courses anywhere in the world (HND, BTEC, BA, BSc, MA, MSc, MD or equivalent) can enter” and participants “don’t necessarily need to be studying a creative course to enter.” So hop to it, young scholars– the final deadline is March 23, and winners receive money, honor, and cute, stubby pencil statues. Contest details are linked below in stunning .pdf format.

Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood has compiled his favorite reggae tracks onto an album called Jonny Greenwood is the Controller. The collection is due out on March 6th and features 17 tracks from various Jamaican artists, including Lee Perry, Desmond Dekker, the Heptones and others. Greenwood, described in a press release as a “fervent fan of reggae music,” spent six months listening to an extensive selection of recordings before finalizing the track listing.

Radiohead has been in the studio for the last several months, working on its seventh studio album.

Singer Thom Yorke recently debuted two new Radiohead songs during a solo performance on an online program called From The Basement, which features artists playing songs live in a London studio with no host and no audience. The show can be seen at fromthebasement.tv.

There’s no word on a title or release date for the new Radiohead record.
