The boys from Radiohead are backing their words on climate change with positive action after announcing they will be giving a “green performance” on US talk show ‘Late Night with Conan O’Brien’ on Wednesday night.

The band will perform their hit “House of Cards” from the current “In Rainbows” album, but will not fly to the US to directly in front of a studio audience. Instead, the band will record the performance from their London studio and pass the material to the broadcast network.

The special performance will form part of O’Briens contribution to “Green Week” on network NBC.

Radiohead say no to coffee deal

Radiohead have scotched reports that they would sign a deal with Starbucks. Thom Yorke and his band Radiohead are currently halfway through the recording of the successor to the album Hail To The Thief, released in 2004.

This will be their first release since they left the record company Parlophone/Capitol. Recently, there have been rumours that Radiohead would follow in Sir Paul McCartney’s footsteps and sell their albums through the coffee king Starbucks. However, the Courtyard Management spokesman declared those stories to be false on the band’s behalf.

“Radiohead are currently in the studio working on their next record. They are not negotiating a new record deal with anyone, and will not even consider how to release their new music until the album is finished,” said the Courtyard spokesman.

Last week, McCartney confirmed that he had signed the deal with the Starbucks label Hear Music, reports Yahoo! Music.

New Radiohead Album Given August Release Date

radiohead20.jpg

Online retailer Amazon have given Radiohead’s seventh studio album an August 6 release date.

The album has yet to be titled, and the band are still in the studio working on the new material, but if the date is proven accurate fans would be delighted at getting their hands on new material before the end of the summer.

It should be said release dates on retail music sites are invariably inaccurate however, and are often used as a tool to start collecting pre-orders ahead of the competition. But after two years in the studio working on this release, there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

More information as we get it.

Noel Gallagher Blasts Thom, Bono

Outspoken Oasis bandleader Noel Gallagher has blasted political musicians Thom Yorke and Bono, telling them to stick to playing their hits, and to stop preaching their political beliefs to the masses.

The Mancunian rocker is coming under the media spotlight this week, in the run-up to next week’s Brit Music Awards where his band will achieve the Lifetime Achievement Award for their contribution to the British music industry. And once again, he hasn’t disappointed with his latest rant.

Gallagher says: “Thom Yorke sat at a piano singing, ‘This is f**ked up,’ for half an hour. We all know that, Mr Yorke. Who wants to sing the news? No matter how much you sit their twiddling, going, ‘We’re all doomed,’ at the end of the day people will always want to hear you play CREEP. Get over it.”

Radiohead’s Thom Yorke has posted up a list of his current favourite songs up on Apple’s iTunes site as one of their Celebrity Playlists, and we find out he’s a fan of Bat for Lashes, The Dears and Spank Rock.

“dear iTunes listener . . .
this is just some stuff that really floats my boats at the moment. the list is meant to be played from start to finish in the order you see it with a slight crossfade set in the preferences of 4 seconds like an old mix tape.
err . . . maybe. XX love thom

[Bat for Lashes] “Horse and I” (Track 1): “natasha khan of bat for lashes ain’t scared. i love the harpsichord and the sexual ghost voices and bowed saws. this song seems to come from the world of grimm’s fairytales, and i feel like a wolf.”

Deefhoof Falls In Love With Radiohead

radiohead16.jpg

It would seem Deerhoof touring with Radiohead has spawned the potential for a beautiful relationship between the respective bands.

So bowled over by the Oxford boys was Deerhoof drummer Greg Saunier that he said working alongside Thom Yorke and the rest of the band totally changed his perspective on life.

“Everybody knows what an uncommon live group they are, and even with years of buildup and knowing there was no way they could live up to the legend, they were so much better than even my highest expectation that my whole outlook on the world had to be immediately revised.

“But what people might not know is that they are so great in person. All five of them, and everyone in their enormous crew, were all so sweet to us. They really supported our music.”

The band debuted 15step on the North American leg of their tour last year.

Alternative metal band Korn are to release their own cover version of the Radiohead classic Creep on their forthcoming MTV Unplugged album.

The track has already been covered by the likes of Moby and Damien Rice. Creep climbed as high as No. 7 in the UK charts back in 1993, appearing on the band’s debut album Pablo Honey.

Korn were joined on stage by The Cure when recording the album back in December 2006 and the combination performed a special version of Cure classic In Between Days which will also feature on the album. The album is due to be released on February 19.
